About spending your life in fear …
Remember this quote from Walter White from the TV-Show “Breaking Bad”?
“I have spent my whole life scared, frightened of things that could happen, might happen, might not happen, 50-years I spent like that. Finding myself awake at three in the morning. But you know what? Ever since my diagnosis, I sleep just fine. What I came to realize is that fear, that’s the worst of it. That’s the real enemy. So, get up, get out in the real world and you kick that bastard as hard you can right in the teeth.”
—Walter White
Fear is the real enemy.
I still remember the morning shock, when you wake up and realize that they’re gone.
And the fear that creeps in after that.
But here’s the bad thing about fear:
When you give into it, there are lots of wrong beliefs that can take hold.
Like for example that crippling concern that you’ll stay alone forever.
That is a fear that I knew very well.
For a long time, I thought that my Ex was my perfect match. I put her on a high pedestal so that no one was able to live up to that ideal.
And at one point I told myself “that’s it … say hello to your lonely lonely life.”
I really thought that this was my last chance for love.
But … as we both know, things turned out much different.
Eventually, I got out in the real world, and I kicked that bastard right in the teeth.
That day I realized that it was all in my head:
- I wasn’t too old for finding someone new
- She wasn’t MY perfect match
- The breakup wasn’t just MY fault alone
- The relationship wasn’t at all that great as I have remembered it
It was all a self-created illusion.
And this is my message for you today:
Stand up, face that unjustified fear and punch that sucker in the teeth.
Your friend and coach,
